Grading Practices Dear Parent(s), I am excited to share our Hofer unified grading and reporting practices with you. During our Kindergarten year, your child will complete daily assignments for teacher feedback and will receive at Progress Report/Report Card at the end of each Trimester .
Teacher feedback and continued guidance, reflects your child’s performance for one particular in person assignment or classroom activity and fosters your child’s progress in terms of mastering the end-of-the year grade level standard.
The number on the report card (4,3,2,1) reflects your child’s proficiency of an entire grade level standard.
The teacher feedback reflects only that assignment or activity. The assigned number on a given Report Card reflects a variety of assignments, observations, and anecdotal notes as part of the whole. The assignment is one point on the grade level journey Mastery of the standard is the end result.
In daily practice, your child will participate in a variety of assigned activities (and receive teacher feedback) meant to allow for initial exposure, continued practice and enrichment opportunities geared toward the mastery of Common Core State Standards for Kindergarten.
The report card informs the attainment of an entire grade level standard versus an assignment and the related teacher feedback that may reflect one particular skill or concept within a standard.
